Etihad Airways welcomes Abu Dhabi re-opening

Following an announcement by the Abu Dhabi Emergency Crisis and Disasters Committee, which enters into force on December 24, 2020, access restrictions in Abu Dhabi will be eased. International tourists, residents and travelers from selected destinations flying with Etihad Airways are allowed to enter the emirate without the need for self-isolation for 14 days.

The list of countries eligible for quarantine entry, called ‘green’ countries, will be reviewed by the Ministry of Health on a two-week rolling basis. Travelers from ‘green’ countries will have to isolate themselves until they get a negative PCR test result. Those entering the Emirates from countries not on the ‘green’ list will be subject to a reduced quarantine period of 10 days.

Tony Douglas, CEO, Etihad Aviation Group, said: “With Abu Dhabi at the forefront of the global response to COVID-19, the approach to managing the pandemic has positioned the capital as one of the safest cities in the world to visit. The gradual reopening of our border is cementing the strict health and safety measures we have implemented across the airline. We can proudly say that Etihad has played its part by positioning us as an industry leader and ensuring guests traveling with us, with complete peace of mind. ”

Upon arrival at Abu Dhabi International Airport, all passengers undergo thermal screening and COVID-19 PCR testing. This applies to all arrivals except children under 12. When passengers arriving from ‘green’ countries receive their negative test results, they are allowed to enjoy Abu Dhabi without the need for quarantine or wearing a medical bracelet. Guests staying more than six days must perform another PCR test on day six and then again on day 12 for longer stays. Test starts from AED 85 in UAE. Guests traveling from other destinations must follow the quarantine guidelines, which are reduced to a period of 10 days.

UAE residents who have participated in the vaccination trials or the national vaccination program are also exempt from quarantine in Abu Dhabi.

Flights to, from and via Abu Dhabi are supported by the airline’s fully redesigned Etihad Wellness redevelopment and safety program, which ensures that the highest standards of hygiene are maintained at all stages of the customer journey. This includes specially trained wellness ambassadors, a first in the industry who have been introduced by the airline to provide important travel hygiene information and care on the ground and on every flight so that guests can fly with greater ease and confidence.

“As we approach the winter break and get ready to mark the end of a challenging year, it’s time to welcome the world to Abu Dhabi now. “We are extremely grateful for the ongoing support of the Abu Dhabi authorities and will continue to work closely with them to ensure that the highest level of security measures is maintained,” Douglas added.

As part of the Etihad Wellness program, all passengers traveling with Etihad receive free COVID-19 insurance. Etihad is the only airline in the world that requires 100% of its passengers to perform a negative PCR test before departure and on arrival in Abu Dhabi, offering travelers an extra level of insurance when visiting the Emirates.
