Source: Nats acquires 1B Bell in trade with Pirates

First baseman Josh Bell is traded from Pittsburgh Pirates to Washington citizens, a source told ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Thursday.

In return, the pirates get young pitchers Wil Crowe, who debuted with the Nats in 2020, and Eddy Yean, the source said.

When he came out of a 2019 season where he set career heights in almost every offensive category, Bell, 28, went back during the pandemic-shorted 2020 season and hit .226 with eight home runs and 22 RBIs.

He made his first All-Star team in 2019, hitting .277 with 37 home runs and 116 RBIs.

Over five seasons, all with the Pirates, Bell has a .261 career average with 86 home runs and 309 RBIs.
